Free Printable: Take Time To Rest

Happy Fall! Warm days and colorful leaves are here to stay for a bit. Yay. I have an urge to buy beautiful pens and notebooks, planners, and paper clips–and there are some of those goodies now in the shop!

Free Printable: Take Time to Rest by Gold Standard Workshop

But August. Let’s talk about August. By the time August rolled around this year, I was burnt out. Exhausted. Just so, so tired, physically and mentally. What started as one week off turned into four. So I tried my best to relax and take time to be creative without it needing to be a product for the shop or a tutorial for the blog. I read real books, played around with watercolor, soaked in Big Magic for the third time, and started creating inspiration boards—with real life magazines!! So good and fun and inspiring.

But it was also a time when, feeling as tired and run down as I was, I could have quit. Never come back. And I felt like it some times. It’s easy to do. But I made it a point to really feel those feelings—defeat, sadness, severe tiredness. And you know what? They didn’t stick around! It took them a while and they were stubborn about it, but they floated slowly through one ear and out the other.

If you’re feeling like I was–even a little bit–you shouldn’t quit either. You’ve put too much blood, sweat, and tears into your project, biz, career to give up now. Rest will help. Self-care will help. You might even learn a few things on your break that will help when you’re running full speed. I discovered that I feel more peaceful, happy, and inspired off of social media. I like sharing projects, bits and pieces of my life, and inspirational printables and messages, but I don’t love it. I feel like it’s saying I don’t like Joanna Gaines. Or Game of Thrones. Or puppies. But it’s true. So I’ve decided that it will play a smaller role in my life going forward and I feel really good about it.

If you have problems resting or taking breaks or you’re afraid you’ll quit if you stop for a day or a week or a month, use this printable! Rest is good. Rest is freaking great.

This free printable is an 8″ x 10″. Check out the Free Gems page for more goodies!

Affordable Planter Roundup

Since summer is winding down and we’re moving indoors, it’s the perfect time to spruce up your plants around the house and give them some extra love. I rounded up some adorable DIY planters this past summer to spruce your house (and mine!) for the season. I also created a few fun planters of my own–a gold foil triangle planter, pretty face planters, and a marbled foil planter. But this time I’ve found some cute and affordable planters to buy.

Sometimes, you'd rather buy than DIY! Affordable Planter Roundup by Gold Standard Workshop

I love DIY, but I also love the satisfaction of buying something and being able to use it immediately. Because let’s be honest: sometimes DIYs don’t work out, or if you’re like me, it takes a few weekends (or months or, well, years) to finish something. Let’s check ’em out!

DIY Pretty Face Planters

As a recent planter fanatic (triangle gold foil planter here and see a DIY roundup here), I keep buying more and more and met my capacity for my tiny apartment a long time ago. But I couldn’t resist making a few pretty faces to add to my mix! These cuties are super quick and the planters could be any color, so you might not even need to paint yours (like I did). They make adorable gifts or party favors!

DIY Tassel Picnic Blanket or Throw

This is the last of five projects featured in the Seattle Goodwill SPEED.I.Y ad campaign. I had 5 minutes to run through the store and find as many items as possible to repurpose into fun DIY summer projects for summer parties and picnics. See the main post here with more info and check out the Seattle Goodwill DIY page for lots of projects and resources!

Let’s end summer with a bang, shall we? This DIY is so easy and the possibilities are endless! Consider looking for something that will do double duty and use it as a throw during the winter.
