DIY Summer Projects with Seattle Goodwill: SPEEDIY!

Summer DIY Projects

Summer is here!! Yay! And that means I’m DIY-ing like crazy to get ready for the beautiful weather and spend as much time outside as possible. I have more projects lined up than I know what to do with, which means my apartment has been a craftaster lately (that’s a word, I know it)! I’m always on the lookout for projects that are fun and modern (and budget-friendly), and one of my favorite places to get ideas and look for supplies is Seattle Goodwill! My apartment is full of repurposed items from Goodwill and I’m a regular at the Ballard location–it’s my go-to spot for furniture, vintage dishes, books, linens, and clothes. So, naturally I was excited when they asked me to work with them to create a few ads that focus on easy DIY summer projects with thrifted items!!

I had 5 minutes to find as many items as I could to repurpose into summer garden and party projects for SPEED.I.Y–sort of like Supermarket Sweeps, thrifty style! I created five projects and the items I found are all things you can quickly find at Goodwill, so you can get in, get out, and enjoy your summer!

Head over to the Seattle Goodwill DIY page for lots of DIY resources, including instructions for the projects in the videos! I’ll also be sharing posts with more detailed instructions and photos here over the next two weeks.

On top of being thrifty and repurposing items into fun DIYs, I also donate items to Goodwill. They make a big difference in the community–net proceeds support many different types of free job training and education programs, and they help disadvantaged people achieve economic independence. It’s a huge win-win!

GO SHOPPING!

Get out to one of the 24 Goodwill stores near you (insider tip: Ballard has great vintage finds, Bellevue is great for furniture and designer clothes, and Dearborn is gigantic and awesome) and go shopping for all of your summer projects!

What are you making this summer with thrifted items from Goodwill? Share your DIYs by using #GoodwillDIY and @SeattleGoodwill (Instagram and Twitter)and show us your projects! We’d LOVE to see them! And stay tuned for the garden projects on the blog this week! xo

  1. Love all your posts, but this shows how common ordinary items can be transformed quickly by looking at them with creativity! I hope Goodwill links to this.

    1. Thanks for reading, Denise! I believe that Goodwill will link to this post and others I have planned. I definitely want to convey that idea for these projects. I hope you’re enjoying beach life! 🙂
