As a recent planter fanatic (triangle gold foil planter here and see a DIY roundup here), I keep buying more and more and met my capacity for my tiny apartment a long time ago. But I couldn’t resist making a few pretty faces to add to my mix! These cuties are super quick and the planters could be any color, so you might not even need to paint yours (like I did). They make adorable gifts or party favors!
- Spray Primer
- Terra cotta pots of any size and matching saucer
- Flat white spray paint
- Clear spray varnish (matte finish)
- Permanent markers (I love Sharpies)
- Acrylic paint (optional; I used it for the cheeks)
Paint the pots white (or any color you want!). It may take several coats. I found that spray primer helped coverage. Acrylic paint works great too! Once dry, draw your face with a pencil on the best-looking part of the pot. I sketched a few ideas on scrap paper first.
Think about the eyelash thickness, small smiles, or pretty full lips, and blush!
If you mess up, just erase it and start over! Once you have a face you like, use your markers or paint pens fill in the lines.
Add a little blush using acrylic paint or a pretty pink permanent marker.
Add some embellishments to add a little more color. I painted stripes along the top section of the pot in mint and peach. You could add polka dots or paint it a solid color or embellish the saucer.
Easy DIY, big impact. The hardest part is painting the pot white! The rest is lots of fun! These make great gifts, and cute little patio peeps.
