Style Files: Mixing Pastels and Bold Patterns

Happy Friday!! Or Friyay, as it’s been coined. Let’s all hope for weekend sun, ok?

Today’s outfit is a mix of springy pastel and dark, bold patterns. And it works.

Outfit: Always Skinny Jeans, Gap
Shoes, Crown Vintage, DSW, similar
Button-down shirt, J.Crew (via Goodwill), similar
Cashmere sweater, Ralph Lauren (via Goodwill), similar
Watch, Kenneth Cole, TJ Maxx, similar
Hair Bow, Claire’s, similar (They have so many cute colors and patterns–try a floral!)

The button-down gingham shirt is actually a boy’s shirt that I found at Goodwill. So, it fits but it’s a little tight in the front and the sleeves are shorter, which makes it a great choice underneath a sweater. The pattern on the shirt provides a solid, but interesting foundation to the solid light-colored sweater. It’s not a color combination you would immediately see in your closet, but it works. And the petite hair bow adds a hint of femininity to a tomboyish outfit. A statement necklace would be bomb, too.

GSW Style Tip: Don’t be afraid to mix pastels with brighter patterns and bold colors. It provides interest, contrast, and balance to your outfit.
