Pretty No Carve Painted Pumpkins

A few years ago, I went crazy with my pumpkin purchases. Like seriously crazy–I had at least 30 pumpkins in my small apartment. Big, mini, white, orange, cinderella, you name it. Well, guess what? This year I only bought 21. Hey, it’s an improvement. I love decorating pumpkins just like I do Easter eggs. It’s something my family always did and enjoyed, and I still look forward to it every year. There are a bazillion different ways to decorate them–as you know if you’re on Pinterest. People are really thinking outside the box!

But I’m keeping today’s project simple. Painting is one of my favorite ways to decorate them–and it’s a wonderful alternative to carving. I love white pumpkins (who doesn’t?), and I decided to go for a glam black and white theme. These pumpkins are pretty and sophisticated—I think they would look great as a table centerpiece! I styled a few with napkins from Target and they’re definitely on trend!

Materials
  • Pumpkins, real or fake
  • Acrylic paint in various colors–I love Martha Stewart
  • Paintbrush
  • Glitter
  • Mod Podge
Basic Idea & Tips
  • If using real pumpkins, wash them and remove any dirt and other scuffs. Let dry.
  • Paint away!
  • You may have to apply several coats to get a good finish.
  • Try chalk paint for a pretty matte finish (I used satin finish for these).
  • If glittering, paint a layer of Mod Podge on the desired area and then cover with glitter. If painting and glittering, be sure to wait until the paint is COMPLETELY dry. If not, glitter will stick to the painted area–not cool.
