It’s a Wrap, Yo! #1 (Wrapping Tips): Copper Tones for Fall and Masculine Gifts

This is the first of an eight post series called “It’s a Wrap, Yo!” that includes ideas, wrapping tips and tricks, and inspiration for your holiday wrapping. Check out the introduction to the series here and the dedicated page that will house all wrapping tips here.

This week’s post is fall-inspired. Target has coordinating plaid and copper wrapping and party supplies and they’re stunning—and affordable! I had some birthday gifts to wrap for a cute boy and the pretty copper paired with black ribbon is masculine and sophisticated and just so pretty too! This color combo would be beautiful for any Fall event, but don’t stop there–think about how you can use copper for your holiday gifts, too! Read on, friend.

Supplies

Weekly Wrapping Tips: Copper Tones for Fall and Masculine Gifts--Gold Standard Workshop

Gift Wrap, Boxes

1. Copper and plaid gift wrap, Target
2. Copper and plaid gift boxes, Target

Ribbon

3. Double-sided satin (worth the money!), Paper Source
4. Velvet, M&J Trimming and wired satin ribbon, Paper Mart
5. Sheer, BB Crafts

Essentials

6. Scissors, Target (find a lightweight pair that you like–the lighter the better. These are pretty, but metal and a bit heavy if you’re doing a lot of wrapping).
7. Double-sided tape, Office Depot (I don’t recommend anything else and feel quite strongly about double-sided tape. It’s invisible and makes your wrapping look professional. Use it.)

Tip #1: You can’t go wrong with metallics

Metallic gift wrap of any color creates beautiful gifts. You can usually get away with purchasing it on the cheaper end and no one will ever know. This copper gift wrap is $4.00 (via Target) and it’s easy to work with and also on trend. Think about using it to wrap a gift for your always-on-trend friend–they’ll love you for it.

Tip #2: Pair metallic paper with black ribbon for a classic look

Pair metallic wrapping paper with solid black ribbon and it’s a win every time. Any type of ribbon will work–I used wired silk, satin, and organza for the gifts in this post. Mixing up different types of ribbon but keeping them the same color adds depth, texture, and variety.

Tip #3: Mix a solid with a pattern–think plaid!

Plaid patterns are on trend too and paired with copper or other metallic colors is a such a gorgeous contrast!! Target has plaid gift wrap, gift boxes, tissue paper), napkins, banners, and other fun supplies!

Tip #4: Gift boxes are a good choice, IF….

Gift boxes are always great alternatives to wrapping IF they are good quality. Use this test: if the recipient could reuse them throughout the year in their home (read: pretty and sturdy), or else gift it to someone else next season, then it’s a good choice. 1. These are so pretty! I love to wrap gifts, especially at Christmas. My kids think I am crazy, but I love coordinating all the papers and ribbons with my tree! Thanks for some new ideas!

    1. Thanks, Pamela! I love that you coordinate them with your tree!! Great idea. And your kids will appreciate it when they’re older. 😉 Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Pretty packages and plaid… You had me at all of the pretty packages!

Obviously now I’m on the hunt for more metallic paper. I’ve always been a fan of the gold and silver, and now that I have this great idea on how to pair copper, it’s going in the supplies. Yay – I see another Target run in my week!

I just had to select your post as my feature for the Thank Goodness It’s Thursday party, Kristie! I can’t wait to see what you link up tomorrow.

    1. Sarah, thank you SO much for the link party feature!! That’s so exciting! I have a huge weakness for anything copper right now, so I almost passed out when I saw the copper/plaid display at Target! And the best thing about metallics is that you can totally get away with buying less expensive paper and no one would ever know! xo
